Fabrication of tantalum oxyfluoride and oxynitride thin films via ammonolysis of sol–gel processed tetraethoxo (β-diketonato) tantalum (V) precursors for enhanced photocatalytic activity

In the present report, generation of Tantalum oxyfluoride and oxynitride upon ammonolysis gel obtained from modified tantalum-alkoxo complexes is reported. To best our knowledge, this first report formation tantalum thin films via β-diketone complex [Ta(OEt)4(CF3COCH2COCH3)]m. The integration nitrogen fluorine in lattice sites metal oxides leads to significant reduction bandgap, resulting their activation under visible light. Moreover, effect alkoxide precursors on photophysical properties Ta2O5 have also been investigated compared with results fabricated unmodified (V) ethoxide. 1H NMR, 13C NMR elemental analyses confirmed successful modification ethoxide [Ta(OCH2CH3)4(CH3COCHClCOCH3)]m (1), [Ta(OCH2CH3)4(CF3COCH2COCH3]m (2) [Ta(OCH2CH3)4 (CH3COC(CH3)2COCH3))]m (3). fabrication involved spin casting gels alkoxo (processed by sol–gel method) glass substrate. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy show that was incorporated into ammonolyzed (1) (3), while presence as film precursor. optical characterization insinuate bandgap narrowing 3.55 eV for undoped prepared 3.47 [Ta(OEt)4(CF3COCH2COCH3)]m 3.05 Furthermore, enhanced photocatalytic efficiency demonstrated degradation methylene blue dye.
